Description
1970's Japanese Instrument Manufacturing was truly a golden age for Music in Japan.  Large lawsuits were filed by American instrument manufacturers against Japanese manufacturers because the instruments were such good copies of USA product.  This banjo is regarded as a Masterclone by many players because this is legitimately a superior instrument to a Gibson RB250 that was made at the same time.
This has a thick multiply maple shell with a maple neck and resonator that are finished Blonde.  This is definitely a gorgeous color and is also the more popular finish for the Vintage Ibanez Artist Banjos.  The fretboard is rosewood with a Wreath inlay pattern.  There is white and also RB800 style binding on each side of the neck and resonator.
This is all original except for the tailpiece and two of the tuners.  The two new tuners are off of a 1970's Gold Star and other then the buttons are identical to the other tuners.  The tailpiece is an aftermarket clam shell which I chose because this originally had an Ibanez clam shell.  Everything else is original including a 2 piece flange and a full size 20 hole tone ring.  This banjo has a lot of power and has absolutely earned the name Masterclone.
There is a group on Facebook called Vintage Banjos Made in Japan that is large and has a focus on Banjos like this.  Check it out!!
Condition
This banjo is in superb condition and also has been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has been disassembled and all of the metal has been buffed to look new.  The original finish is in fantastic shape and has been waxed to a shine.  The finish has yellowed including the binding but that adds some more mojo.  The frets and fretboard are in excellent condition with spikes at the 7th-10th frets.  The original case is also super clean which is really rare because these old Japanese banjo cases are usually worn out by now.  This is absolutely beautiful and is freshly cleaned.
Set Up
This has also been set up at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has a new Huber frosted head which is set to 90.  The bridge is set with correct intonation.  This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action feels great!!  This is a great player with loads and I do mean loads of tone.  This is the banjo to get for the player that wants high quality on a budget.
