Product Description:
This is a pair of new-old-stock Shimano Exage brake lever hoods (light gray-white) in the aero design (which means the brake cables will "exit" through the back of the levers, so they may be wrapped under the bar tape...for a cleaner look). Please note we are referring to the color as 'light gray-white", because the Shimano catalog color reference is light gray for this specific brake hood model number, but they honestly look more like a white color to us (and we just want to be clear regarding this color commentary).
They appear to be a second generation brake lever hood in the sense they have some anatomic shape to them...meaning there is a "right" and "left" hood and they may have slight molded design features intended to provide a better fit (relative to earlier model brake lever hoods that typically have more of a uniform/universal design). Please understand, these design features are subtle at best, so please do not expect the anatomic shape found on today's dual control shifter/brake levers, but we thought the design characteristics of these hoods were still worth noting.
Our old Shimano shop catalogs indicate these rubber hoods are compatible with Shimano's late 80's Exage Action (Model BL-A351) or Exage Motion (Model BL-A251) aero brake levers. Although, please keep in mind some of these Exage levers were designed to accommodate an optional extension lever that would bolt-on to the inside of each lever body. I mention this, because this bolt-on extension requires a cut-out in the brake hood and the model brake hood offered herein does not include that cut-out (so this brake hood is not a good choice for one of the above brake lever models if extension levers are also in use). Regarding the latter, we do have equivalent brake hoods with the cut-outs for extension levers offered under a different listing.
As for locating the model number on these levers, we find that most of the levers have the model number stamped on the side...near where the lever attaches to the lever body (and just above the pivot point). Usually the markings are not very big, and if there are hoods on the brake lever bodies, then you may have to pull them back a little to view the markings on the edge of the levers where they attach (or are hinged) to the brake lever bodies. Lastly, please do not attempt to use these hoods with any of Shimano's newer dual control shifter/brake levers, as we are fairly certain they will not work very well, if at all, as we believe these hoods were made solely for older (and specific) Shimano aero brake levers (as discussed above).
With respect to condition, these hoods are new and in their original packaging (so still factory-fresh and pliable with no signs of age cracking).

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.
Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
