Description

Make this vintage 1931 Bacon and Day Silver Bell Sultana 1 Tenor Banjo w/knee mute the crown jewel of your collection.
With Beautiful Blonde perloid, Fancy F style flange, Exquisitly engraved frets and head, and Concentric circles on resonator, this banjo is a unique specimen of the Artistry and Craftsmanship of Bacon and Day.
The original owner, Dr Bob, played it in his jazz band to help put himself through dental school back in the 30's. A lifetime musician, he also played it at the Freedom Train Celebration for the 1976 Bicentennial in Asbury Park, NJ. He gave it to my dad sometime in the 1980's. They both took very good care of it. It is in very good condition for its age. The frets show no wear. There are a couple of very fine buckle scratches on the resonator and a more noticable scratch on the paint at the base of the neck. The flange is still shiny save for a few spots of patina which could possibly clean up in the right hands. It comes with the original (well loved) hard shell case with blue velvet zipped liner whose wear shows how well it protected its charge.
